Magnificent!
One of my favourite places in Guernsey; I have loved and known Candie from the days of my schooldays.
In the midst of a trafficked Avenue and broiling noise of Motor vehicles, Candie remain immune to it all: Proudly holding it¨s features on high for our pleasure.
Do you know the one Greenhouse (lean-too) was the first 'vinery' ever in Guernsey.
The days before WW11, where nightly shows were there in the Auditorium; Oh old fashioned it might have been, but it was truly a time of peaceful enjoyment.
Thank You for showing those wonderful Pictures.

Thank you Eric when you think this was at one time part of the family house it was given over to the states to build houses on many years ago I for one am so glad they kept it as a garden the top half of the gardens are still not as good as the lower garden ,that is because it is a different states department hence a different money pot!

When I write about things in Guernsey; I do so it from my heart. as I have done about Candie Gardens.
Yes it has two different ways; as you say Kat the lower part is Gorgeous, and Incomer said it has that tranquility to soothe the savage brow. (Old fashioned words, but with meaning)
Different aspects of life: Yet never forget that the upper part has many things as well. the views must be some of the best in the Island: an old friend looks down at us, in the form of Victor Hugo. The sloping lawn is second to none. because of it's two way slopes.
One can sit and enjoy those views from the little cafe. with a delightful variation of cakes or rolls and cups of tea or Coffee. at reasonable prices: I sat there nearly every day for a fortnight, and never tired of it. This was at lunch time
Then there is the museum, with a wealth of information, and people who have the utmost courteous manners. Yes Candie Gardens is a Jewel in our little heaven.
I'll try and dig up some old photos of Candie.
Again Thank you Kat for showing us one of our charming spots.

These photos are from about 1908; and NO I didn't take them- (didn't have a camera). Anyway it shows how it was then- and Kat's, show how it has developed into the beautiful place it has become. Here then are just two. i41.tinypic.com/4llljs.jpg

Well Kat I do think your pictures were more alive; but one must understand that the pictures I show, are from another era in the life of Guernsey; Many of the flowers you show were never seen in Guernsey; And that is why I am so glad you show us. Now these two photos are from upper Candie; Folk crowded round that Band-stand, Music was something new in open air, a great awakening. The other photo is to my way of thinking most charming; a nanny, patiently waiting for the one child to finish playing, Take note of the pram; my word women in those days were tough, to push those heavy prams up Candie Road was a feat of endurance. God Bless all mothers. And so two pictures of days gone by. i44.tinypic.com/2e35ttj.jpg
